Professor Andrew Nicolaides is Honorary Professor at St. George’s University of London and Emeritus Professor of Vascular Surgery at Imperial College London. At present, he is Honorary Professor at the University of Nicosia Medical School in Cyprus.
He studied medicine at Guy's Hospital Medical School and has dedicated his career not only to advancing vascular science but also to educating generations of clinicians. Early in his work, he developed a venographic technique that identified the soleal and calf veins as the primary source of postoperative thrombi—an innovation that earned him the prestigious Jacksonian Prize from the Royal College of Surgeons. In the 1980s, he pioneered the first calibrated air-plethysmograph capable of accurately measuring leg volume during exercise. A passionate advocate for continuous medical education, he serves as Chairman of the European Venous Forum (EVF), which he co-founded in 2000.
Currently, Professor Andrew Nicolaides serves as the President of “Competency in Phlebology,” an initiative aimed at raising standards in venous education worldwide.
